Cosmelan

Do you suffer from hyperpigmentation? Before you answer, you should know that hyperpigmentation is a usually harmless skin condition that causes spots of skin to become darker in color than the surrounding skin as a result of overproduction of melanin. Melanin is the pigment responsible for giving the skin its color. Hyperpigmentation can come in a variety of forms, including age spots or sun spots, melasma or even freckles, and affects all skin types and ethnicities.
It is estimated that 90 percent of adults over the age of 50 have pigmentation concerns. Still, hyperpigmentation can occur at any age due to contributors like genetics, sun exposure, hormonal fluctuations or the natural aging process. Visible dark spots on the skin can be a constant source of embarrassment or insecurity for many individuals, affecting their self-esteem or quality of life. Fortunately, the cosmelan peel by Mesoestetic was uniquely designed to correct and regulate hyperpigmentation with long-lasting and luminous results.
How Does a Cosmelan Peel Work?
Cosmelan is formulated with an exclusive combination of active, medical-grade ingredients that are proven to work on all stages of the hyperpigmentation process. The cosmelan peel sets itself apart from other hyperpigmentation treatments by not only eliminating your existing dark spots, but also preventing their reappearance as well as the development of new dark spots on the skin. The dual correction and at-home control action of the cosmelan peel allows patients to continue benefiting from their treatment for the long term.
With an in-office phase combined with an at-home maintenance phase, this two-step depigmentation treatment has an intensive corrective effect on discoloration while also regulating the overproduction of melanin. By inhibiting the production of excess melanin, you can ensure no new dark spots show up over time. Cosmelan’s unique and powerful blend of ingredients also works to accelerate cellular turnover to remove dead skin cells, soften rough skin texture and smooth the skin’s appearance for comprehensive and lasting rejuvenation results.
Who is a Candidate for a Cosmelan Peel?
Because the cosmelan peel is safe for all ages, skin types and ethnicities, the treatment can be beneficial to almost all men and women struggling with the appearance of hyperpigmentation. During your initial consultation, Dr. Lilliam Diaz of ICALA Medical Aesthetics will carefully assess your pigmentation concerns and goals to determine if the cosmelan peel is the right treatment for you.
Common concerns addressed by cosmelan include:
- Sun damage or age spots
- Melasma
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Acne and acne scars
- Poor skin texture
- Enlarged pores
- Freckles
Botox injections work equally well for any skin type and have few side effects and contraindications. During your initial consultation, Dr. Diaz and her experienced staff at ICALA Medical Aesthetics will assess both your concerns and aesthetic goals to help you decide if Botox is the appropriate treatment for you.
What Happens During a Cosmelan Peel?
The first phase of your cosmelan treatment will take place in-office at ICALA Medical Aesthetics. During this phase, Dr. Diaz will first apply a degreasing solution to your face to clean the skin of all oil, dirt and debris and prepare it for treatment. Next, the cosmelan 1 face mask, which has a thick mud-like consistency, will be gently and evenly applied to your skin. Unlike many in-office treatments, the cosmelan 1 face mask is not removed during your appointment but is left on the skin for 8 to 12 hours, depending on your skin type and sensitivity. That means as soon as your mask has been applied, you are free to return home for the duration of your treatment.
At the end of the time specified by Dr. Diaz, you’ll need to remove the cosmelan 1 mask by thoroughly cleansing the application area with lukewarm water. It is essential that you do not exceed the recommended application time for your treatment to ensure optimal results. Dr. Diaz will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions and cosmelan 2 products for the second maintenance phase of your depigmentation treatment.
What to Expect From Your Cosmelan Peel Recovery
While your recovery after your cosmelan peel will not cause discomfort or prevent you from completing your everyday tasks, you may require between four to ten days of social downtime as your skin heals from the treatment. Following the removal of your cosmelan 1 face mask, your skin may appear red and feel tight and itchy from the procedure. 48 hours after removing your mask, you will need to continue with the daily maintenance routine to supplement the mask’s corrective action and regulate the overproduction of melanin.
For the next four to ten days, your skin will begin to peel and flake as cellular turnover works to lift and eliminate unwanted pigment and dead cells from the skin. You will be instructed to use your cosmelan 2 aftercare cream two times a day, followed by the melan recovery cream to keep the skin from drying out and sun protection SPF 50+ during the day to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Once your skin has finished shedding completely, your flawless new complexion will be apparent.
What Results Can a Cosmelan Peel Achieve?
After the initial in-office phase of the cosmelan peel, patients will usually see improvements in their skin tone after just one week, with full results taking about four to five weeks to develop. The maintenance phase of a cosmelan treatment will continue at-home for six months to ensure you achieve optimal results while regulating and preventing the reappearance of dark spots. By strictly adhering to the daily aftercare regimen, you can eliminate discoloration and restore a smoother and more radiant complexion that lasts up to 18 months.
The cosmelan peel is considered to be the new gold standard for eliminating pigmentation concerns safely and effectively.
